NovaWind is Rosatom's new division concentrating efforts of the Russian nuclear corporation in advanced areas of the energy generation technology. The company was founded in September 2017 and has an authorised capital of RUB 1,101 million. NovaWind has consolidated all of Rosatom's wind energy assets to take on the responsibility for its wind generation strategy. To achieve this ambitious goal, the company has acquired a range of totally new competencies comprising wind farm management, serial production of wind turbines, product development, marketing and sales, and after-sales support.

WindSGC, one of the companies managed by NovaWind, has been in charge of building and operating 660 MW of new wind generation capacity since 2016. On 20 February 2018, Gazprombank's subsidiary GPB-VetroGeneratsia acquired a 49.5% stake in WindSGC and, respectively, in the wind energy projects it operates. Russian nuclear corporation Rosatom retained a controlling majority stake in WindSGC. With the ownership structure changed, WindSGC continues to be responsible for the design and construction of wind farms and wind energy generation.

WindSGC-2 is responsible for the delivery of wind energy projects with a total capacity of about 1 GW. The projects were selected following a series of government-organised tenders for renewable generation facilities in 2017–2021.

The total portfolio of NovaWind is about 1.7 GW (including the commissioned wind farms with a total capacity of 1 GW), which confirms the company's position as one of the leaders in the wind energy industry in Russia.

Located in Volgodonsk (Rostov Region, Russia) at Rosatom’s power engineering centre Atommash, NovaWind Plant manufactures wind turbine components and assemblies.

The plant's building and cranes were retrofitted and upgraded to meet wind turbine production requirements. Investments in the plant infrastructure exceeded RUB 1.7 billion. The plant in Volgodonsk occupies an area of 30,000 sq m. Its annual production capacity is about 120 wind turbines per year. The staff comprises over 270 production, engineering and administrative employees. Following the upgrade programme, the plant in Volgodonsk was divided into five assembly departments: generator stator, wind turbine rotor and main bearing, generator, hub, nacelle.
