NovaWind and Government of Dagestan Discussed Wind Energy Development

The parties discussed practical matters of wind energy development, grid connection options and availability of related infrastructure, and potential assistance in managing land issues in case NovaWind makes an investment decision to finance construction of wind farms in the Republic of Dagestan.

The prospective investor and the Project Management Office for Wind Energy Development of Dagestan’s Energy Ministry explore the possibility of building a 150 MW or larger wind farm on the Caspian Sea coast to make use of onshore winds for power generation. By delivering this project, the parties will create new generation capacity to meet the growing demand in the Makhachkala urban agglomeration, improve the stability and reliability of power supply in the Novolaksky and Kumtorkalinsky Districts, and decrease the share of grid losses caused by power flows. Projects like this lay a foundation for the sustainable social and economic development of the region through new power capacity, new jobs and tax proceeds.

The meeting with investors was attended by First Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of Dagestan Sharip Sharipov, Head of the Ministry of Land Reclamation and Agricultural Water Supply Zalkip Kurbanov, Deputy Minister of Economy and Territorial Development Adilkhan Akhmedov, Head of the Ministry of Energy PMO Artur Alibekov, Head of the Architecture and Urban Planning Department of Dagestan’s Ministry of Construction Khalid Gazaev, and other officials.
